Learning Progression

Learning progression for a particular classroom will make sure that learners read / attempt all the materials in the order set by their instructors. Enabling this will ensure that learners complete the current material before accessing the next material. Therefore, assisting them in understanding the foundations before they move on to a higher level of concepts in that classroom. You can enable learning progression if you want to be strict about the order in which learners access your content.

Learning progression also includes lesson page level progression. This means that, if learning progression is enabled in a classroom, then learners will not be able to access the next lesson page before completing the previous lesson page from the lesson expanded view. This will restrict access to only the pages that have been read and the succeeding page. Learning progression can be enabled at the section level as well.

This article will guide you on:

Classroom-Level Learning Progression

If learning progression is enabled for a classroom and a learner tries to access a material in that classroom without completely reading/taking the previous material, then he / she will be prompted to complete the previous material before accessing the next one. Let's understand this scenario with the help of the following example:

1. Following is a classroom 'Digital Literacy' in which your instructor has enabled learning progression.

2. Now let's take a scenario in which a learner of this classroom, tries to attempt an assignment 'Exit Assignment' without completing the previous material (in this case, a lesson 'Workshop Resources').

3. As a learner, you will see a lock icon on the material's card along with a message stating that "You have to complete the previous materials before you can access this assignment". This message will also be shown in a dialog box if you tap the material's card.

4. If learning progression was not enabled at the classroom level, then learners would be able to submit the assignment, or access any other available materials in order of their liking.

But as learning progression is enabled for the classroom, therefore learner will be able to submit the assignment 'Exit Assignment' only after completing the previous material (in this case, the lesson 'Workshop Resources')

Section-Level Learning Progression

Similar to learning progression at classroom level, section level learning progression allows teachers to control the order of materials that learners can access within a section. Teachers can enable or disable this feature for each section in the section settings list. If learning progression is enabled for a section and a learner tries to access a material in that section without completely reading/taking the previous material in that section, then he / she will be prompted to complete the previous material before accessing the next one.

This feature is mutually exclusive with the classroom level learning progression feature, which means only one of them can be enabled at a time. A label will be shown on the sections where this feature is enabled, to inform both teachers and learners about the restriction.

2. In the section where the learning progression is enabled, the learner will ne prompted to complete the previous material in order to access the next material. For example, in the following scenario, learning progression is enabled in the section 'Digital Footprint'. Therefore, a learner will need to first read the lesson 'Digital Literacy - Fundamentals' completely in order to access the next material 'Digital Awareness' in the section.
