Creating and Managing Grade Scheme (Instructors)

A grading scheme is a set of criteria that measures varying levels of achievement in a classroom. Grading schemes are based on percentage ranges, and each percentage range is given a name (name value could be alphanumeric). A grade scheme can include any number of achievement levels. Teamie has two types of Grading schemes, Private or Public. We will talk about each in detail.

Note:.

Grading schemes can be defined as default at the classroom level and site level. Your administrator can set any given grade scheme as default at site level and that grade scheme will become the default grade scheme for all classrooms that are newly created or doesn't have any set grade scheme. As an instructor, you can change the grade scheme of your classroom later as per your requirement.

This article will guide you on:

Creating a Grade Scheme

1. Click sliding menu and select Locker.

2. Click Grade Schemes tab.

3. On the Grade schemes page, click + Create new grade scheme.

Note: On this page, you will also be to view all the grade schemes that you have created.

4. Type the name of grade scheme and its description (optional) as per your requirement.

5. A default grade scheme is already in place for you to use. Click and update the Learning grade and Range as per your requirement.

Learning grades can be alphabets, numerals or alpha-numeric and can also include special characters. Whereas, the range can only be in numerals and can include decimal points.

6. You can insert a new learning grade between two existing grades by clicking the + button of the earlier grade. For instance, if you wish to insert a new learning grade between the existing grades 'B' and 'C', then click the + button for 'B'.

7. You can now add name to the newly inserted learning grade. The range will be set as the mean of the range of two existing learning grades between which you have inserted the new learning grade. For instance, if you have inserted a learning grade between two learning grades with range 50% and 25%, then the new learning grade will have the range as the mean of the existing learning grades [(50+25) / 2] = 37.5%

8. You can also add a description for each learning grade while creating a new grade scheme or editing a previously created grade scheme. This will help learners get a better understanding of how they are being graded or follow any specific instructions that are provided by the instructor.

Learners will be able to view the description as a tool tip in their gradebooks, once the scores and grades have been published. If the quiz allows the user to View Scores and Grades immediately, then the grades description will also be shown here.

9. Click Save to create the new grade scheme. Click Cancel or Delete in case you wish to go back to the Grade scheme page without saving the grade scheme; any lost changes cannot be recovered.

10. A confirmation message appears. You will be able to find the newly added grade scheme in the table at the Grade schemes page from now onward.

11. Hover over a grade scheme and click View grade scheme details icon to view its details.

Editing a Grade Scheme

On the Edit Grade Scheme page, you can edit any existing grade scheme created by you. While editing a grade scheme, you can:

  • Add a new learning grade
  • Remove a learning grade
  • Change the name and description of the grade scheme
  • Update the name and range of learning grades

You cannot edit a grade scheme which has been attached to any assessment(s). Create a copy of the grade scheme to use it.

3. You can insert a new learning grade between two existing grades by clicking the + button of the earlier grade. For instance, if you wish to insert a new learning grade between the existing grades 'A' and 'B', then click the + button for 'A'.

You cannot edit a grade scheme if it has been attached to one or more assessment(s).

4. A new learning grade will be added. You can now add name to the newly inserted learning grade. The range will be set as the mean of the range of two existing learning grades between which you have inserted the new learning grade. For instance, if you have inserted a learning grade between two learning grades with range 75% and 50%, then the new learning grade will have the range as the mean of the existing learning grades [(75+50) / 2] = 62.5%. You can change the grade range by entering the required score directly in the range field or by using the up and down arrow for the corresponding range field.

5. You can also add a description for a learning grade, if required. This will help learners get a better understanding of how they are being graded or follow any specific instructions that are provided by the instructor.

6. Click x for the corresponding learning grade to remove that learning grade.

7. You can also update the name and description of the grade scheme.

8. Once you have edited the grade scheme, click Save to save your changes or Cancel to discard them.

4. A confirmation message appears and the grade scheme will be deleted.

5. You won't be able to delete grade schemes which are attached to assessments. So, the grade schemes which are in use, can't be deleted.

Copying a grade scheme

As an instructor, you can copy an existing grade scheme and make changes to it to create a new grade scheme as per your requirement. This can specially be useful in case an existing grade scheme is attached to an assessment and therefore cannot be edited. By making a copy of that grade scheme, you will be able to edit the existing grade scheme. Let us see how you can copy a grade scheme.

Changes made in the copied grade scheme won't reflect in the original grade scheme.

1. On the Grade schemes page, hover over the grade scheme that you wish to copy and click Copy grade scheme.

2. The grade scheme will be copied and opened for you to make any changes if required. Edit the grade scheme as per your requirement (for example the name of the grade scheme will have the name of the original grade scheme prefixed with the text "Copy of").

3. Change the Grade Scheme title and add the description as required. Once you are done making the changes, click Save to save the changes, else click Cancel. Clicking Cancel will take you to the Grade schemes page and you would be able to see the copied grade scheme at the top of the table.
