As an administrator, you can enable the SBGR feature from the Manage Optional Features page. Let's see how.
This article will guide you on:
1. Click the Sliding menu.
2. Under Manage Teamie section, click Manage Optional Features.
3. On the "Enable standards based grading" card, click Enable.
4. A confirmation prompt appears, click I understand, Enable to enable SBGR on your Teamie site. Click Cancel in case you changed your mind.
5. SBGR will be enabled on your Teamie site and users will be able to see a "Mastery View" tab in the gradebook of the classrooms in which you have set up SBGR.
Once enabled, SBGR cannot be disabled at user-end. Contact us at support@theteamie.com in case you wish to disable SBGR from your Teamie site.
Once SBGR is enabled on a Teamie site, then you can enable it in a classroom. Enabling SBGR means mapping the predefined objectives to the classroom for the purpose of grading. Each classroom will have the "Grade" and "Subject" meta fields through which the objectives will be mapped to the classrooms.
These objectives are part of the curriculum which are imported from our (Teamie's) end as per the client requirement. Once imported, the objectives can be mapped to the classrooms' assessments.
If a fresh set of objectives are imported, then it will be assigned a new version and will not affect the older objectives that could already have been mapped to some assessments. As highlighted before, the importing process, including the version control, will be done from our end. You can contact us at support@theteamie.com for further information on the objectives import process.
Let us see how the objectives are assigned for a classroom:
1. Click the sliding menu.
2. Under Manage Teamie section, click Classrooms and then select Manage Classrooms from the expanded list.
Classroom is another term (white-labelled) used for a Modules/Program/Groups/Batches. These terms are set up as per your site set up configuration and varies from client to client.
3. On the "Manage Classrooms & Groups" page, search for the required classroom using the filters.
4. Once you have filtered the classroom, click Edit from the Edit column to navigate to the "Edit Classroom" page.
You can also navigate to the "Edit Classroom" page from a classroom's landing page. Click the ellipses(...) and then select Edit classroom settings from the drop-down list.
5. On the 'Create/Edit Classroom' page, fill the required classroom details (such as title, unique code etc) and click 'Enable Mastery' checkbox to enable the standards based grading for the class. This will be manual mastery and teachers would need to record mastery manually for the standards. This view will also be shown while creating a new classroom to set up SBGR for new classes via UI or using the bulk import method.
The 'Enable Mastery' option will be shown if the mastery settings are configured to be enabled for the classroom level as discussed below.
The mastery settings can be configured, on request, at two levels - Site Level and the Classroom Level:
- Site Level: Classrooms which have an Academic Year, Subject, Grade and objectives for this combination mapped in the backend will have the mastery views shown, by default.
-
Classroom Level: When mastery configuration is set for the 'classroom' level, admins will be able to:
- Enable Mastery
- Enable Mastery Automation
- Set the mastery automation calculation logic
- Latest Summative Assessment
- Decaying Average
- Statistical Mode
- Set the mastery calculation method
- Overall
- Semester Based
- Enable an overall score and grade for the mastery calculations
6. In order to enable mastery automation, tick the 'Enable Mastery Automation' checkbox.
7. Once you enable the mastery automation setting, you will have the option to set the 'Mastery Automation Calculation Logic' and 'Mastery Calculation Method'.
8. Mastery Automation Calculation Logic: We have the following 4 types of logic for calculation Mastery Automation logic.
- Latest Summative Assessment:This method calculates mastery based on the most recent summative assessment score, giving priority to the latest evaluation of a student's performance.
- Decaying Average:This method prioritises recent assessments by assigning higher weightage to the latest graded assessments while still factoring in older ones, with their influence gradually reduced over time. The mastery score is calculated based on the most recent graded assessment and the previous two graded assessments, if available. The weightage percentages for these assessments can be configured at the site level. For instance, a 50-30-20 weightage means 50% weight is assigned to the latest assessment, 30% to the next most recent, and 20% to the third.
- Statistical Mode:This method identifies the most frequently occurring mastery level among all assessments to calculate the mastery score.
- Statistical Mean:This method calculates mastery by averaging the scores of all assessments, providing an overall representation of a student's performance.
9. Mastery Calculation Method: We have the following 2 types of logic for mastery calculation methods:
- Overall: Mastery will be calculated for the entire academic year.
- Semester-Based: Mastery will be calculated for each semester separately.
10. Tick the 'Overall Mastery Score' checkbox to enable an overall score and grade for the mastery calculations. When Overall Score checkbox is checked at a classroom level an overall score and grade will be shown to the users in:
- Classroom Mastery View
- Classroom Objectives / Standards View
- Student Mastery View
- Student Summary / Standards View
While calculating the overall score and grade, we have two methods to calculate final scores and grades based on your institutions preferences:
- Separate Semester Calculation: If the separate semester method is selected, the overall score and grade will be the average of Semester 1 and Semester 2 grades. This method ensures that each semester is weighted equally in the final evaluation.
- Cumulative Calculation: If the cumulative method is chosen, the overall score will also include the Semester 2 score, which factors in all assessments across the entire year. This approach is useful for institutions that want the overall score to be reflective of the performance of the entire academic year.
11. Click and select the required academic year, grade and subject field. The standards in this class would be mapped in the backend as per this combination of Year / Academic Year, Subject and Grade.
If a new set of objectives are imported and the version is changed as per the new objectives, then the classroom will start using the new version of objectives. Regardless of the new imports, there will not be any impact on the older assignments already mapped to the previous version of the objectives.
12. Click Save to create/update the classroom.
13. Users will now be able to see a "Mastery View" tab in the gradebook of this classroom and instructors will be able to assign (map) objectives/standards to the assessments using rubrics.
We have an option at the site-level that allow users to land on the Mastery View of the gradebook, instead of the gradebook scores tab when they access the Gradebook of that classroom from any of the following places:
- Classroom card on the home page
- Classroom sidebar tabs
- Classroom Gradebook link in users' profile
In case you wish to enable this option, kindly write to us at support@theteamie.com!
In our continuous effort to streamline administrative tasks, we have introduced a new Rubric Verification workflow. Previously, identifying classrooms with invalid rubric criteria or unmapped objectives required a manual backend report. Now, Site-level Administrators can generate the report on-demand from the Manage Classes page, which will list each classroom with a status indicating whether any rubric issues were found.
This feature ensures that your mastery-based assessments are accurately mapped by scanning all assessments within classroom(s) in a single operation.
This feature is available only to Site level Administrators.
Follow the steps below to verify rubric configurations for assessments across one or more classrooms.
1. As an admin, click Classes under the Manage Teamie section. Then, Select "Manage Classes".
2. On the Manage Classes page, use the filters to narrow down the classrooms you want to verify.
It is advised to use the filters (such as Class Enable Mastery, Class Enable Mastery Automation, Class Grade, Class Subject, Class Group Type, year) to list the classrooms you wish to verify.
3. Select individual classrooms using the checkboxes, or select all classrooms in the current page to perform a bulk check. You can also click 'Select all rows in this view' to select all the filtered classes on all the pages.
4. Click the Operations drop-down and select "Verify Class Mastery Assessment Rubric Data" option.
5. Click Execute.
6. The selected classrooms list will be shown. Click Confirm.
7. A progress indicator will be displayed while the system processes all selected classrooms. The operation checks whether each selected classroom has a valid rubric attached and whether the assessment objectives are correctly mapped.
8. The system will automatically generate and download an Excel file containing the full verification results. The downloaded Excel will have two sheets:
- Summary
- Details
9. The 'Summary' sheet will show the list of all the classrooms and their details. The 'Status' column will one of the following two statuses:
- No issues: Signifies that this classroom has no assessments with invalid objectives used in rubrics.
- Having Issue Assessments : Signifies that this classroom has assessments with invalid objective used in rubrics (objectives with different class, grade or year).
- Invalid Class For Mastery Automation: Signifies that the classroom doesn't have the mastery automation settings enabled.
10. The 'details' sheet consists of the color coded details as following:
- Blue color show the classroom details.
- Pink color columns show the assessment details.
- Green column shows the rubric details.
- The orange color 'Invalid Objective Use' column shows the details of the invalid objective used in the rubric.
The Recalculate Mastery feature allows authorized users to manually trigger a recalculation of mastery scores, using the Mastery Recalculation button, when discrepancies are noticed in classroom gradebooks. This self-service tool eliminates the need to contact support for mastery calculation issues by providing clear feedback on data validation, such as rubric mappings, pending queues, or classroom setup and triggers recalculations only after checks pass, ensuring accurate reporting. The recalculation runs asynchronously and updates mastery scores after the system verifies the classroom data and assessment configurations. Let's see how you can use this feature:
- Required Permission: Users with Site-level permission "Access All Grades" which is typically given to the administrators.
2. Click the Recalculate Mastery button.
3. Before recalculating, the system verifies several conditions, including:
- Valid classroom data
- Valid semester data (if applicable)
- Whether the classroom is configured for SBGR calculations
- Correct rubric and criteria mappings for assessments
- Pending mastery items still in the processing queue
4. After validation completes, you'll see one of the following status messages:
1. Success Message:
"SBGR calculation verification completed successfully. No issues found."
- What it means: All validations passed and mastery recalculation is correct
2. Warning Message:
"SBGR calculation verification was terminated due to pending items in the processing queue. Please retry once the queue has been processed."

- Use the Recalculate Mastery option only when necessary.
Q: How long does recalculation take?
A: Processing time varies based on classroom size.
Q: Can I recalculate mastery for multiple classrooms at once?
A: No, you must trigger recalculation for each classroom individually.
Q: What happens if I click the button twice?
A: The second request will show a "pending items in queue" message until the first recalculation completes.
Q: Does this affect overall grades or just mastery scores?
A: This only recalculates mastery/standards-based scores, not traditional gradebook scores.
Q: Can I undo a recalculation?
A: No, recalculation updates scores based on current assessment data. Ensure your assessment configurations are correct before recalculating.
Thanks for outlining the steps. Is there any impact on existing grades when SBGR is enabled, or does mastery recalculation only apply to new assessments created after activation? @FNF
