Changing Notifications Preferences (Parents)

As a parent, you can have access to the following content, based on your Teamie site's configuration and permissions given.

  1. View Todos at a child level, with ability to view description/instructions when clicked on
  2. View Calendar for a child's classroom
  3. View Gradebook at the classroom level
  4. View Attendance at the classroom level (and Submit Absence report, if applicable)
  5. View Childs stories, if access is given (Access can be given either by the child directly sharing with the parent, or if the story is visible at the site/public level)
  6. Message child's instructors

In case you are added to a classroom, for example, a Parent Group. you may also have the access to the following content:

  1. View newsfeed posts, announcements
  2. Participate in newsfeed by commenting, liking, voting on polls
  3. If given permission, create your own posts to ask questions
  4. Access events added to the classroom's calendar

You have the ability to control how you want to receive the aforementioned notifications.

Teamie provides the following notification options:

  • Email (email notifications)
  • Mobile Device (push notifications in mobile apps)
  • Web (bulletin board notifications in web browser)

This article will guide you on how to:

Accessing notification preferences page

1. Click Sliding menu.

2. Select Notification Preferences to access the Notification Preferences page.

You can also access the Notification Preferences page by clicking Notification Preferences in your profile dropdown.

3. On the Notification Preferences page, you will see the default notification settings enabled for different workflows. And you can select which notifications you would like to receive.

Manage Notifications for Assessments

To change your notifications preferences for actions related to your child's assessments [Assignments & Quizzes] (as shown in the following screenshot), follow these directions:

  • Select the E-mail checkbox next to when your child's score for any assessment is published/updated preference. When enabled, an email will be sent to you when your child's score for an assessment is published by an instructor.
  • Repeat this step to select/deselect notification preferences for Mobile Device and Web for other preferences as shown in the following screenshot. This will be enabled by default, for Web & Mobile Device.

Click Save to save the changes. A message appears confirming that the changes have been saved.

Kindly note that the assessments' notifications will only be sent if the parent has access to the assessment scores. This is determined by:

  • Parents are given access to learners' grades at the site level
  • If classroom level setting is enabled and the gradebook has been made visible by the classroom's instructor
  • If assessment level setting is enabled and the assessments Score & Comments have been made visible to parents
Manage Notifications for Attendance

To change your notifications preferences for actions related to your child's attendance (as shown in the following screenshot), follow these directions:

  • Select the E-mail checkbox next to When your child's attendance is marked for an event preference. When enabled, an email will be sent to you when your child's attendance is marked for an event by an instructor.
  • Repeat this step to select/deselect notification preferences for Mobile Device and Web for other preferences as shown in the following screenshot. This will be enabled by default, for Web & Mobile Device.

Click Save to save the changes. A message appears confirming that the changes have been saved.

Manage Notifications for Messages

To customize your notifications preferences for action related to Messages (as shown in the following screenshot), follow these directions:

  • Select the E-mail checkbox next to when someone send you a new message preference. When enabled, an email will be sent to you when someone send you a new message.
  • Repeat this step to select/deselect notification preferences for Mobile Device and Web.

Click Save to save the changes. A message appears confirming that the changes have been saved.

Manage Notifications for Stories

To customize your notifications preferences for action related to Stories (as shown in the following screenshot), follow these directions:

  • Select the E-mail checkbox next to When someone invites you to view their story preference. When enabled, an email will be sent to you when someone invites you to view their story. Take note that the stories access can be given either by the child directly sharing with the parent, or if the story is visible at the site/public level)
  • Repeat this step to select/deselect notification preferences for Mobile Device and Web for other actions as shown in the following screenshot.

Click Save to save the changes. A message appears confirming that the changes have been saved.

Stories is an optional feature which may or may not be enabled on your Teamie site.

Manage Notifications for Newsfeed

To customize the notifications settings for actions related to Newsfeed (as shown in the following screenshot), follow these directions:

  • Select the E-mail checkbox next to the notification preference that you want to change. For instance, selecting email notification for When someone posts a new question action will send an email to you when someone posts a new question in your classroom.
  • Repeat this step to select/deselect notification preferences for Mobile Device and Web for other preferences as shown in the following screenshot.

Click Save to save the changes. A message appears confirming that the changes have been saved.

You will receive newsfeed related notifications only if you are part of any classroom. For example, a Parent Group. The newsfeed related notifications could be for useful for receiving parent-teacher communication, such as, the following:

  1. Viewing newsfeed posts, announcements
  2. Participating in newsfeed by commenting, liking, voting on polls
  3. If given permission, creating your own posts to ask questions
  4. Accessing events added to the classroom's calendar
